As part of the an on-going business transformation programme Landmarc required a new mobile solution for their site engineers to detail the jobs required for the day and for the engineers to log when those jobs were complete or otherwise.

Given that a large percentage of the jobs would be in areas with no network coverage, it was paramount that the solution be able to work off-line, but given the timescales, budget and not wishing to be tied to one specific device, a dedicated ‘app’ was ruled out.

The solution was delivered using the IndexDB feature of Google Chrome for mobile, which allowed for data to be synced to the engineer devices while connected, view and amend jobs while off-line, and re-sync with the SQL Azure on-line database when network coverage was available.

  • Device – latest version of chrome on android
  • Mobile app – AngularJS
  • Cloud – Microsoft Azure, C#, Entity Framework, WebAPI
  • Database – IndexedDb on device, SqlAzure in cloud

The project is up for a Workplace Transformation Project of the Year award at the 2015 UK IT industry awards
